Web 2.0: What's in it for us? (Lecture) Mar 5, '08
Information and communication technology (ICT) continues to be one of the main drivers of change in this modern time. The world has become a huge web of networking communities and information use and exchange have taken huge leaps. The current developments in ICT such as the introduction of Web 2.0 are now shaping the face of the web environment. Web 2.0’s features and architecture is now becoming the trend in the design of information and networking systems in the web. Our knowledge in this new development would be beneficial in ensuring that our work and capacities as librarians and information professionals/specialists will remain relevant in this era of ever- evolving technological paradigm. Registration fee (inclusive of certificates and snacks is P200 (non-UPLSAA members), P100 (UPLSAA members and graduate students), P50 (undergrad students). Next day... Ocotober 18, 2007. Abbie and Jean are in town! Tan-tana-nan! They went to work in Dubai last year, they returned to the country for a brief visit, leaving Harriet to man the fort. Abbie's a librarian while Jean's an Archivist. We had a sumptuous meal courtesy of the duo at Krocodile Grille. Dessert at The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf was courtesy of Harriet. I've been bragging to Carina that I've managed to lose 10 pounds since the start of the semester. Yup, it's true. I started at 186 lbs. last June, beginning of October I was down to 176 lbs. But with all this eating (note the abundance of desserts) I think I've gotten back in a week all the weight I lost in 5 months. My binge blitz continued way into the following week. The UPSLIS Faculty had a semender lunch-out for the 1st sem, AY 2007-08, last October 16, 2007. We ate at Teriyaki Boy, Trinoma Mall and had cakes at Chocolat, The Block, SM North Edsa. It's a well-deserved unwinding, given that we were tortured by our students for a whole sem (hehehe). Yes, I'm the only thorn among the roses. UPSLIS Faculty semender lunch-out, 1st sem, AY 2007-08 Teriyaki Boy, Trinoma and Chocolat, The Block, SM North October 16, 2007

Hello. Long time no post. Things kinda got hectic this sembreak as you will see in the succeeding posts. My binge and blitz started with the final day for my LIS 263: Systems Analysis and Design masters class last Oct 13, 2007. I think I put them through a lot so I agreed when they suggested that we have a pot luck party for the final presentation of projects (which, of course, went overtime due to the length of the project presentations). Lots of nice integrated library systems solutions and existing system tweaks were presented. This one is for the UPLSAA. It's an addition to the 100% Pinoy Librarian shirts sightings in gokitomo.com (multiply blog post link here). The guys wore their UPLSAA shirts on the final day. A fitting tribute to a fine shirt. And so we went overtime. And as those who've taken classes at the UPSLIS know, when you go overtime and the UP Main Library front entrance closes, the only way to get out of the building is via the side door. And the only way to get to that door is via the "dreaded spiral staircase". Yup, it's quite dizzying. Notice the leak stains on the roof. We really have to start with looking for a new building, guys.
I was hoping (and still am) that this won't turn into a Librarian's Despedida Blog, but heck, life's just like that... About 2 or 3 of my posts per year are devoted to a leaving friend or a visiting / returning one. This one is about Harriet. Harriet, a librarian, has already left for Dubai to work as an archivist. We held a despedida for her last September 19 at A Veneto in Quezon City. Harriet joins my other librarian hardbound friends Abbie and Jean who are already working there. My other librarian kumpares and kumares are scattered across the globe, the most being the kuyukots in the US, Canada and New Zealand. It's weird. I nonchalantly dealt with diaspora daily in my old work at the OFW Guardian. But when it's a friend who's leaving, it takes on a whole new meaning. Good luck, Harriet, and God bless. This post just aggregates my vids and the vids of Carina on the simple fire jam at the UP CHK, July 20, 2007 with Christian, JR, Jeho and Carina. (some more to be added later according to Carina) We used to meet for poi practice Saturday mornings. But since work and studies got in our way, we moved the time to Friday nights. Last Friday, I got a text msg from JR on my cell phone before the meet. It read "BRING YOUR FIRE TOYS." So, being a good boy that I am (or good gorilla), I brought my fire poi... And my firechucks. It was so nice being able to see JR spin fire. Mr Suave kasi yun sa fire poi. Hehehe. UP CHK is the College of Human Kinetics, where all the athletic people are. We were spinning fire near the weights room and JR's friends Jeho and Christian joined us and spun fire in between sets. It was also Carina's Baptism of Fire: her First Burn.
LinkMwehehehe! A vid from Carina detailing the exp(l)oits of Troy and Heidi. :D
