I recently came into possession of the VERY FIRST logbook of the UPLISSA! Hermetically and meticulously preserved by Rene Manlangit (of <a href="http://plaistrlc.blogspot.com">http://plaistrlc.blogspot.com</a>), and with the earliest entry dated August 3, 1990, this piece of UPLISSA (and UPSLIS) history is now 18 years old. Back in the day, this logbook was the main means of communication and expression for the ILS (now the SLIS) students. There were no cellphones. Beepers hadn't made a widespread appearance yet. The Net in the Philippines was still in its infancy, no blogs, no social networks. And... This was the year when the male population of the college suddenly ballooned. This probably accounts for the fact that this was also the year when all hell broke loose. Note also the emergence of the first UPILS basketball team in the pages. Here I go again... My, my... How can I resist you...<ul><li>Love the music. Catchy LSS-inducing ABBA classics.</li><li>Story's simple, more feelgood than anything else.</li><li>Acting's okay. But.. ika nga ni Chad at ni Dan, they'll never be able to watch Pierce Brosnan in an action flick ever again after this.</li><li>Singing? Not bad, not opera exceptional. Which brings me to Pierce, he probably was the weakest link. But then, the music more than makes up for the singing. And everyone was probably there to see how the music and the West End Musical translates into a movie musical.</li><li>Treatment was awesome. I was surprised to see Greek and Shakespearean theater elements added. Note the Greek chorus, the Shakespearean comedic (split) mirroring (one member of triumvirate sleeping in bed, both for young'uns and oldies) and end confrontational twist, the masks... LOVE IT!!!
